Sports injuries are a common and unfortunate side effect of keeping an active lifestyle, and can occur whether you are an amateur or professional athlete. Sports medicine is not just limited to treating injuries as it can be used as a preventative method too.

The majority of these resolve with simple rest and ice (RICE) principal where for the first 48 hours you rest a soft tissue injury and apply ice for 20min every two hours to help reduce the swelling and pain.
However, if an injury persists, involves a suspected fracture or causes severe pain then a medical review is warranted with relevant imaging being organised and appropriate referrals. These injuries may require treatment by a doctor specialising in sports medicine in order to optimise performance and reduce long term effects.
